Lansford man facing more charges in theft case

Rush Township police have provided an update regarding a retail theft investigation.

Police said Joseph Etherington, 33, of Pottsville and Brian Kehl, 32, of Lansford, were caught stealing merchandise at the Walmart Super Center at HT Commons Shopping Center in Hometown, at 3:58 p.m. Dec. 8.Both men ran away but were apprehended with assistance from Tamaqua and Kline Township police.Both men are being charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.Kehl took merchandise valued at $408.89, while Etherington took items valued at $733.62.Police said Kehl initially misidentified himself by providing authorities with the name of his brother, Corey Coleman.A story naming Coleman and Etherington was originally published in the Times News on Friday before Kehl's identity was known as the person involved in the incident.An investigation revealed Kehl's true identity and the fact that he is wanted for a state parole violation.Police said Kehl now will face an additional charge of providing false identification to authorities.
