A woman with 33 years of service as an active member of the Lansford American Legion Auxiliary was selected as “Mother of the Year” during last evening’s meeting of the auxiliary held in the post home.

Mary Jeffries, widow of Phil Jeffries, who is the mother of three children - Mrs. Ellen Humphries, Jack and Jay - was named recipient of the award. She has participated in all phases of the auxiliary and is currently serving as civil defense chairlady for the unit.

The women also honored nine Gold Star Mothers, including Helen Kopko, Mary Kosalko, Vera Miller, Ann Rimm, Anna Koshuta, Jane Marshall, Catherine Wapensky, Helen Holowiak and Jennie Bengston.
