Tamaqua news for April 29, 2021

Rush-Ryan Seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met on April 27 with 51 members in attendance. The president opened the meeting with the meeting “When Love Is Shared” followed by the Lord’s Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance and singing of “God Bless America.”

A spring wreath, won by Vill Morrison; flower vase, won by Nancy Messerschmidt; and food basket, won by Jean Machamer were raffled off. Refreshments were served by members of the club. Rose Vallee was added to the sick list.

The annual summer picnic will be held at St. Peter’s Grove, Locust Valley at noon on July 27. Catering will be by Hess of Schuylkill Haven.

All the mothers were wished a happy Mother’s Day.

The next meeting will be held on May 11 at Christ Church, Barnesville, at 1 p.m. Everyone 55 and older is invited to attend.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Ralph Saunders will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes are scheduled for 9:15 a.m. and evening vespers with praise and sharing of faith at 6:30 p.m.

There will be no Wednesday evening service this week due to cleanup at Lewistown Valley Tabernacle beginning at 5 p.m. Come any time to lend a helping hand. On May 6 we celebrate National Day of Prayer at 7:30 p.m. with hymn sing beginning at 7:15 p.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Congregational Church, Drehersville. Call 570-668-9111 for information.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on April 22 with 29 members in at attendance at the Coaldale Complex. The president opened the meeting with the reading “Our Precious Savior.”

Members who passed were remembered: Penny and Gus Schlorf, Anna Mae Yushinsky, Irma Leibensperger and Roger Walck.

Members added to the sick list: Anthony Zahora, Lillian Tomsho, Nora Sheidy, Grace Sakusky, Jim Sands.

The group meets every Thursday at the Coaldale Complex at 1 p.m. Anyone 55 and over is invited to join.

American Primitive

The Rev. Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday service in American Primitive Methodist Church in person and the recorded service is available on the church’s website: www.tamaquachurch.org or Facebook page: www.facebook.com/PMChurchTamaqua.

There will be no Sunday school classes until further notice.

Hope In The Mountains Nar-Anon Family Group meets at 57 Hunter St. If you have questions or are interested in attending these meetings, contact Mark at 570-952-5098.

Eastern Schuylkill Democrat Club

An opportunity to meet the candidates will be held on April 29 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Coaldale Complex Field, Sixth and High streets in Coaldale. Participating will be District Attorney Mike O’Pake, Sheriff Joe Groody and candidates for Judge of Common Pleas, Julie Wert and Jim Conville.

Please bring your own chair and wear a mask. Social distancing will be observed. The concession stand will be open for the purchase of food.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. The 11 a.m. service is available on the church’s Facebook page.

Activities for the upcoming week include: Monday-Friday, 12:30-12:45 p.m. Lunchtime Live with the Rev. Roberts on the church’s Facebook page; May 5, TYM Remix at 6:30 p.m. and worship practice at 7:45 p.m.; May 6, Common ground at 6:30 p.m.; May 7, Here & Now at 5:15 p.m. on Facebook and Bible study at 7 p.m.

Platter fundraiser

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Center will hold a takeout platter fundraiser. Orders must be placed by May 7. Tickets include roast beef or stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw and roll. Catering is provided by A&C Catering. Pickup will be May 20, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Call 570-668-6556 for tickets or more information.
