A Carbon County Commissioner who recused himself from the county election board for the upcoming primary, has been denied his request to fill his spot on the board for the next few weeks.
Earlier this month Commissioner Chris Lukasevich petitioned the Carbon County Court of Common Pleas to fill the vacancy that was left on the election board following his April 8 recusal. Lukasevich’s choice for the vacancy, which is in effect now until at least June 8, was attorney Armin Feldman.
Lukasevich has said that his recusal is due to his intention of supporting a candidate in the primary.
Last week, Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein told Lukasevich that he was “a little disturbed that you think we would not take action at an election board meeting.”
On Thursday, Lukasevich said President Judge Roger Nanovic heard his position and denied his request, saying that no vacancy on the election board exists.
Lukasevich said he will be present at all election board activities but will not vote on any matters until after the primary election votes are certified.
