Nearly $30,000 has been raised by the GoFundMe account set up for funeral and family expenses for the Orwigsburg homicide victim.
As of Friday morning, $28,510 raised of $30,000 goal has been donated to help the family of George Marcincin.
Lori Sweigart, of Leesport, started to effort. The original goal was $5,000 then increased to $8,000. The goal is now $30,000.
Shelia Marcincin, wife of George, thanked donors in a message.
“I am so thankful for all of you and all you are doing to help our kids and I.
I want you to know we have reached our goal for the funeral expenses. George is going to have such beautiful viewing, services and burial, because of each and every one of your kind generous hearts.”
Any donations past the goal will be used toward other expenses such as rent, electric, propane, vehicle payments, car insurance, food, etc. during this very difficult time. Again, thank you all from the bottom of my heart,” Shelia wrote.
Tamiir Ion Whitted, 29, of Pottsville, has been charged with first- and third-degree murder, aggravated assault, simple assault, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, resisting arrest, possessing an instrument of crime and recklessly endangering another person.
He is in Schuylkill County Prison without bail because of the first-degree murder charge.
Police said Whitted stabbed Marcincin multiple times in an apparent road rage attack on Route 61 and north of Brick Hill Road on April 12.
