Carbon seeks input on mitigation plan
Carbon County is looking for input on the update to its hazard mitigation plan.
The county office of Planning and Development, in coordination with the county Emergency Management Agency, is currently in the process of working to update the plan.
Mark Nalesnik, director of the county EMA, said that the plan is updated on a five-year cycle and includes input on all potential hazards from county and municipal levels.
According to the plan’s website, it “serves as a blueprint for reducing property damage and saving lives from the impacts of natural and human-made hazards.”
David Bodnar, director of the county Office of Planning and Development, citing the 2015 plan inscription, also said that local governments must have a mitigation plan as a condition to receiving federal disaster mitigation funds.
The county commissioners posted on their Facebook page this week that the county is currently looking for input from the community “to help make the county a safer, more resilient place to live and work.”

Two draft review meetings are also planned for 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on April 28. The meetings are open to the public and will be held virtually.
To get access to the virtual meeting, contact Dara Zaleski, mitigation planner, at Dara.Zaleski@mbakerintl.com or 215-861-9320.
Once the plan is completed, it will be sent to PEMA for review, followed by FEMA for final approval.
