Four to receive Courage Awards during annual telethon
Four area residents will be honored with Courage Awards during this year’s 39th annual telethon benefiting the American Cancer Association airing Saturday and Sunday.
This year’s honorees are Palmerton resident Lina Laubach, Tamaqua educator Danelle Kane and Tamaqua students Carson Barron and Alexis Jones.
The honorees will be interviewed beginning at 7:25 p.m. Sunday.
Forty-eight acts are scheduled for the program airing live from Penn’s Peak just outside Jim Thorpe from noon to midnight both days.
Acts include singers, dancers, rock bands and a karate demonstration. A complete schedule of talent is available on the telethon website at www.cancertelethon.org.
A Salute to Survivors segment is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Saturday. During this segment, survivors are introduced and encouraged to talk briefly about their battle with cancer.
Anyone who wants to be part of the Salute to Survivors should check in at the front door of the Penn’s Peak auditorium by 6:30 p.m.
Area residents are encouraged to come to Penn’s Peak for the event. Admission to the telethon is free.
The telethon can be seen on Channel 13 on Blue Ridge Cable, Channel 90 on Service Electric Cable in the Hazleton and Tamaqua area, Channel 2 on Service Electric Cable in the Lehigh Valley and Channel 69 in the Greater Lehigh Valley and surrounding communities.
