Budget impasse delays projects

On Monday evening the Polk Township supervisors agreed that it is unlikely that the Hell Hollow culvert project could be completed this year. The awarding of Local Share Grants have been delayed this year due to the budget impasse and are not expected to be awarded until sometime in May.

"That just makes it too late for us to get the culvert ordered and completed this year," said Chairman Brian Ahner. The township has confirmed that the permits will not expire and that the soil and stone grant which it has already received will not expire until August 2017."It will be close, but hopefully we will be able to finish before the grant expires," Ahner said. The township also passed a few ordinance amendments. There is now a uniform signage ordinance which more clearly spells out what types of signs can be displayed in the township. The supervisors also adopted an ordinance which permits the township to allow a residence in a commercial zone. This is something that has existed for years, but was lost under the regional plan. The township also adopted a set of rules and regulations for the transfer station that sets out a way for the township to enforce the rules. The supervisors also agreed to authorize planning solicitor Jerry Hanna to represent the township before the Eldred Township Zoning Hearing Board regarding the Nestle Waters NA water extraction permit. Hanna will request standing on behalf of the township. The West End Ambulance Service provided the township with a new AED unit in place of its old unit which recently broke. The township is proposing a special meeting, tentatively scheduled for 4 p.m. April 5 to discuss various items. Details will be advertised at a later date.
