West Penn Township residents opposed to water extraction refuse to go down without a fight.

More than 20 protesters gathered outside the township's municipal building Monday night before the supervisors' meeting.Messages on their signs included, "Save our water," "No unsafe truck traffic," and "Our water not for profit."Resident Dave Osenbach said, "If we're restricted to a water shortage, we as a community won't do it, unless he stops."Jan Marie Balmat added, "We're unhappy that there's unregulated extraction of a finite resource that belongs to us."The group staged the rally for the second time in as many months and resident Larry Stival said the group intends to protest every month.On Jan. 13, 2016, a group of residents filed a lawsuit in the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia County against businesses and people associated with water extraction in the township.At the center of the lawsuit is the water extraction site at the intersection of Kepners Road and Blue Mountain Drive, and a newer water extraction site being erected at 1 Fort Franklin Road.
