Lenten service

Effort UMC will hold a Lenten service at 7 p.m. today in-house and online.

Legion meets

The American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is slated to meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Holy Week services

• A Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 7 p.m. Thursday, but the day begins with a morning prayer at 8 a.m.

The Mass will be followed by Adoration until 11 p.m. and Night Prayer.

• Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, will have a virtual Good Friday service.

• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will celebrate The Lord’s Passion on Saturday with morning prayer at 8 a.m. and also a 7 p.m. livestreamed service.

• St. John’s Lutheran Church, 164 Merwinsburg Road, Effort, will be holding a Good Friday Service at 5 p.m. It will be led by Pastoral Care Provider Lynn Weiler.

Masks are required.

• Salem-St. Paul’s, Kresgeville, will have a Zoom Bible Study on Maundy Thursday and will hold a Zoom video service, Stations of the Cross, at 7 p.m. Good Friday, or email video service any time.

On Easter, there will be a parking lot service with Holy Communion at 10:45 a.m. and a special Easter video service anytime.

• St. Matthew’s UCC will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 6 p.m. with Holy Communion, a dramatic reading and Tenebrae, a service of candles and desertion.

The service on Good Friday will be a virtual one on the website, Stations of the Cross.

• St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will have a solemn Holy Thursday service at 7 p.m. with special music. Pastor Ed Bean will give a sermon titled: Does Evil Have Consequences?

• Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will begin its services of Easter weekend with a Maundy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m. and a second service on Good Friday, also at 7:30 p.m. Both are in-person worship times, with CDC guidelines being followed by worshippers: wearing a mask and social distancing. The services will also be on Facebook Live.

PVEN needs

From one of the member churches of the PVEN comes word that the PVEN could use pasta, pasta sauce, cereal and baked beans for its food giveaway program, and the Clothing Closet has need for shampoo and conditioner, women’s deodorant, body wash and toothbrushes.

Drive-thru hunt

WEPOSC invites families to a drive-thru egg hunt, for ages 10 and younger, to be held on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. through noon, or while supplies last, at Ross Township Park, 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.

The Easter Bunny is to be there also. Prize eggs will also be part of the event.

It will follow COVID-19 guidelines as it replaces the annual in-person egg hunt, in an effort to have families remain safely distanced. People are asked to remain in their respective vehicles and wear a mask while being handed items. There will be one entrance to drive into the event and continue to the separate exit, on top of the hill, where a punch card fundraiser for the West End Park and Open Space Commission that also supports local businesses will be available.

Exact change will be appreciated.

Basket blessing

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold a blessing of the Easter baskets at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Ross Supervisors

The April 5, meeting of the Board of Supervisors of Ross Township will be held at 7 p.m. at the Ross Township Municipal Building on Anchorage Road. The meeting is open to the public, but attendance is limited to comply with state guidelines. Being there in person is on a first-come basis.

Home Association

The West End Home Association of the American Legion, Gilbert, is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for its monthly meeting.

Prayer shawl group

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl group will work, talk and pray from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Chestnuthill meets

The Board of Township Supervisors for Chestnuthill Township is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township complex in Brodheadsville.

Blood drive

The next Miller-Keystone Blood Center blood drive at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville will be held between 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 7.
