The Northwestern baseball and softball teams picked up wins against Northern Lehigh Tuesday.

BASEBALL

No. Lehigh-Northwestern

Northwestern rolled to a 10-0 Colonial League win against Northern Lehigh.

Justin Holmes went 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, run scored and an RBI for the Tigers (2-0), who scored nine runs in the first inning. He pitched three innings, allowing two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Nick Henry added three hits, including a double, and scored three runs, while Dylan Witkowski and RJ Zack both finished with two RBIs.

Josh Kistler, Zach Chamberlain (double), Grant Olewine and Nick Buskirk all had hits for the Bulldogs (0-3).

Pleasant Valley-ES South

A big fifth inning helped Pleasant Valley cruise to a 9-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over East Stroudsburg South.

Andrew Meitzler sparked the Bears (1-0), who scored eight runs in the fifth, with two singles and two RBIs, while Nathan Loch added two singles and two runs. Jake Gethen contributed a single, a run scored, two RBIs and two walks.

Brandon Ratti earned the pitching win, striking out 14.

Northwestern exploded for 18 runs in the second inning and cruised to a 19-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Kylie Zentz had two singles, two runs scored and three RBIs for the Tigers, while Brynn Balliet added two doubles and two RBIs.

Morgan Farthing, Molly Mitman and Isabella Teprovich all had home runs for the winners, now 3-0, while Sam Sisco knocked in three runs. Farthing and Olivia Stofflet both finished with a pair of hits.

Jordan Hemingway had a double for the Bulldogs (0-2).

Hannah Frey had a home run in the sixth inning for the winners.

Abbie Miller went the distance for the Indians (0-1), striking out seven.

Earning the victories for Palmerton were the teams of Brayden Kline and Logan Connelly, and Riley Fallon and Tyler Shollenberger.

Northwestern earned a split in its Colonial League tri-meet against Bangor and Palisades.

The Tigers earned victories against the Slaters in both the boys and girls meets, but fell to the Pirates.

Faith Yost earned first-place finishes in three different events (100H, 300H, high jump) for Northwestern.

The Tigers’ Joshua Heilman had wins in the 100 and 400 in the boys meet.

Tamaqua opened the Schuylkill League regular season with a sweep over Pine Grove.

The Lady Raiders earned a 93-52 win in the girls meet, while the hosts posted a 96-54 victory over the visiting Cardinals in the boys meet.

Caitlin Smith (100, 200) and Grace Stegermerten (800, 1600) ran to multiple first-place finishes for Tamaqua, while Cameron Lewis had wins in both the 200 and 400 for the boys.
