The Nesquehoning Recreational Center serves as the borough’s emergency shelter when disaster strikes and residents need a place to stay warm.
Last week, the borough agreed to allow MapleShade Meadow Senior Living personal care home to also use the center as a temporary shelter in the event residents would need to evacuate the facility due to some type of emergency.
“The Nesquehoning Recreational Center will provide temporary shelter to MapleShade residents in an emergency evacuation,” the agreement states, noting that MapleShade would be responsible for transporting its residents to and from Nesquehoning Recreational Center, as well as providing staff to care for the residents and supplies such as food and clothing.
MapleShade Meadows also has another agreement with Panther Valley School District for use of the elementary school as an emergency shelter.
