PALMERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
Palmerton Borough Council took the following action on Thursday:
• Agreed to advertise the holding of a public hearing at 7 p.m. April 22 to discuss proposed amendments to the borough’s zoning ordinance regarding political signs and warehouse regulations.
• Approved two agreements with the Palmerton Fireman’s Relief Association authorizing that 50% of the proceeds from the sale of the 1978 American LaFrance firetruck and the 2007 American LaFrance Aerial shall revert to the Palmerton Volunteer Fireman’s Relief.
• Amended the agreement dated Nov. 25, 2002, with the Palmerton Fireman’s Relief Association, which authorized that 17% of the proceeds from sale of the 2001 American LaFrance firetruck to allow for 50% of the proceeds from the sale of this vehicle to revert to the Palmerton Volunteer Fireman’s Relief Association.
• Amended the agreement dated Nov. 25, 2002, with the Palmerton Fireman’s Relief Association which authorized that 16% of the proceeds from the sale of the 1995 Smeal firetruck to allow for 50% of the proceeds from the sale of this vehicle to revert to the Palmerton Volunteer Fireman’s Relief Association.
• Adopted an ordinance that will add a stop sign at Edgemont Avenue and Linden Street.
• Appointed Jacob Knappenberger and Brandon Schnell as members of the Palmerton Fire Department.
• Mayor William Gallagher announced that St. Luke’s University Health Network’s Lehighton Campus provided the borough with three first aid kits and three defibrillators that will go in the borough police department’s patrol cars. “My thanks to St. Luke’s; they’re a good partner, and hopefully we never have to use (the first aid kits).”
• Approved the request from the Carbon County Election Bureau for Election Day for use of the borough garage. The west and middle districts will vote there.
• Approved the request of the Palmerton United Veterans Organization to hold its Memorial Day Parade at 10 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day.
