The Slatington Marketplace on Route 873 will host an antique appraisal fair from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 10.
All proceeds raised from the appraisals will benefit the Slatington Veterans Memorial.A fee of $5 per item to be appraised will be charged, with a limit of three items. Organizer and appraiser Charlette Schnecksaid, "come see what grandma's stuff is worth for a good cause."Schneck is a certified appraiser and the owner of Charlettes Web Antiques. Joining Schneck during the event will be veteran antique dealer and owner of Larry's Antiques, Larry HillbornAnyone who would like to have items appraised is asked to preregister by calling Schneck at 610-509-0050 before the event.Walk-ins will be accepted the day of the event.All antiques and collectible items will be considered for appraisal the day of the event.The Slatington Veterans Memorial Committee has been working to raise $40,000 to construct the memorial on Main Street.The committee announced earlier this month that it has reached the $30,000 mark of its goal. The bulk of funds collected has come from the committee's brick-selling campaign.Engraved bricks are for sale and can be purchased to honor anyone living or deceased, having served in any of the branches of the U.S. military and was honorably discharged. Up to three lines of engraving at 15 characters per line are available for engraving the bricks.All bricks are 4 by 8 inches and cost $50.
