Bucks driver leads police on Pocono chase
A Bucks County driver is facing charges after he led police on a high-speed chase and then threatened them with a knife before finally being taken into custody. State police at Stroudsburg said the incident began at 12:30 p.m. on Friday along Route 611 in Pocono Township, Monroe County.
According to troopers the county communications center received 911 calls of a white Ford F250 traveling south on Route 611 driving erratically and passing vehicles in the center lane. A few minutes later a trooper observed the suspect vehicle traveling south and attempted a traffic stop activating emergency lights and siren. The driver, later identified as Daniel S. Agrelo, 35, of Warrington, continued south passing vehicles and traveling through a red light at the intersection with Rimrock Drive, almost hitting cars.
Agrelo then continued south for multiple miles, passing vehicles in the center lane, failing to stop at multiple red light intersections, weaving in and out of traffic in a reckless manner, at times traveling at a high rate of speed and nearly striking multiple police and civilian vehicles. Additional troopers and members of the Stroud Regional Police Department joined in the pursuit.
At the intersection of Bridge Street and Route 611, Agrelo stopped his vehicle, exited the driver’s side, screaming and yelling at police and approaching the officers in an extremely hostile manner. He had a knife and was screaming, “Shoot me.”
Agrelo came within a few feet while officers gave him verbal commands at gunpoint to stop. He then jumped back into his vehicle and sped away.
The pursuit continued with Agrelo eventually stopping at North Ninth Street. He again got out of the truck and troopers attempted to subdue him. He fought with the officers and a Taser was used to subdue him and he was taken into custody.
Troopers charged him with aggravated assault, fleeing or eluding police and related charges. A crash resulted from the incident. Court records indicate Agrelo is an inmate in the county prison in Snydersville.
