April J. Powell, 35, of Kunkletown, was charged by state police at Lehighton with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance after a crash at 1:07 p.m. Jan. 5 on Burger Hollow Road in Polk Township.

Police said she and a 1-year-old passenger,also of Kunkletown, escaped injuries in the incident.Police said Powell was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox westbound and was negotiating a slight curve in the roadway when the vehicle began to swerve to the right.It left the roadway and hit a utility pole with its right passenger's side, shearing off the pole as the vehicle rotated clockwise and overturned, coming to rest on its roof facing northwest.Police said both the driver and the infant had to be helped out of the vehicle.
