A Carbon County man admitted in county court on Monday that he had inappropriate sexual contact with a then 4-year-old boy.
Eric Brown, 29, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of indecent assault. In exchange for the plea charges of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault and corruption of minors were dropped.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II said that he spoke with defense counsel Paul J. Levy of the public defender's office, and Assistant District Attorney Joseph D. Perilli, the prosecutor, before the court proceeding concerning the plea because he had reservations about the agreement.Nanovic said he was told by both attorneys that the victim's family was in agreement with the plea bargain.Lehighton police were contacted by the parents of the boy in September 2015 about the possible sexual abuse of their son by Brown. Police investigated the incident and the boy was interviewed by a child advocacy council and confirmed the abuse occurred. The police report said the abuse occurred over a time span of June 13, 2015 to Sept. 13, 2015. Brown, however, said the time frame not correct saying the time span was not that long. Police said Brown touched the boy in his private area.Nanovic said the charge falls under the provisions of Megan's Law. Brown will be evaluated by the state sexual assessment board to determine if he is a sexual violent predator. If he is determined to be one, then he will register for life as a sexual offender. Nanovic said if not, then the registration period is for 15 years.Nanovic deterred sentencing so the assessment could be completed. He also ordered the adult probation office to prepare a pre-sentence investigation report.
