Mary Anne Clausen, vice chairman of the Eldred Township supervisors, is concerned about preventing a shooting like the one that occurred March 19 that resulted in the death of Jeffrey Place and Steven Powell.
"In light of the recent tragedy on Meixsell Valley Road, could we get together with the other townships to discuss what could be done when someone in our townships has mental issues and what kind of help we could offer?" she asked.Township solicitor Michael Kaspszyk thought there would be nothing wrong with getting together in an open forum.Supervisors Gretchen Gannon Petit, chairman, and Sharon Solt, secretary/treasurer, agreed.Clausen said she would make phone calls to the other townships to see if they would be interested.Roadmaster Keith Kuehner reported that the road crew has opened up all the pipes in preparation for spring runoff; they got all the cold patching done on township roads; and they removed some trees.Dale Weidman said a family asked if when the they cleaned up the road by their residence, could they deposit the stones and clumps of grass at the township site. Kuehner said he didn't see a problem with it.Eldred will open its gates at the municipal maintenance building beginning May 1 from 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m. to accept electronic recycling items.
