Fire and ambulance crews answered calls to help a snakebite victim at Glen Onoko Falls Saturday night.
The 23-year-old woman was at the third falls, near the top, said Lehigh and Lausanne Rural Volunteer Fire Company Deputy Chief Keith Koch. The calls went out at about 8 p.m. to Franklin Township, Trachsville and Nesquehoning fire departments, he said.Koch said Jim Thorpe firefighters had already taken a Stokes basket to the woman, and that his firefighters, who arrived at the top of the falls by traveling across state game lands, helped carry her out of the woods. They loaded her into a vehicle and took her to a waiting ambulance. Lehighton paramedics then took her to a hospital. In the original call, the woman said she was bitten by a copperhead snake, but emergency crews did not know for certain what kind of snake it was.The woman's name is not known, and due to medical confidentiality laws, it was not possible for the Times News to obtain information on her condition.
