Palmerton school board fills open positions

A vacant health and physical education instructor position has been filled in the Palmerton Area School District.

On a 7-0 vote, the school board at a special meeting on Tuesday approved Jaclyn Terwillinger to the post at the junior high school at the rate of $38,319, Bachelors Step 1, effective Aug. 11. Directors Barry Scherer and Josann Harry were absent.Terwillinger will fill the position created by the retirement of former instructor Stephanie Heller.Also on Tuesday, the board, by the same vote, accepted the resignation of Kristen Tubbs, learning support teacher at S.S. Palmer Elementary, effective Aug. 10.To fill that position, the board then appointed Michelle Davis as a Learning Support teacher at S.S. Palmer at the rate of $38,319, Bachelors, Step 1, effective Aug. 11.In other business, the board:• Approved Christine Bravo as an instructional assistant for Life Skills at the high school, a new position; Marcia Heinick as an instructional assistant at Towamensing Elementary, filling the position created by the resignation of James Crisafulli; and Casey K. Rinfret as a one-on-one instructional assistant at S.S. Palmer, a new position. All three are at the new hire rate of $13.38 per hour, for 29.5 hours per week, effective Aug. 19.• Approved Bronwyn Elizabeth Green, Jessica Peifly, Elizabeth Hilaire and Scott Radio as substitute teachers.
