D.A.R.E. program

Tamaqua Police Cpl. Dwayne Hacker has announced important dates for this year's

D.A.R.E. program.The

D.A.R.E. Challenge will be held onMarch 5. There will be two sessions, from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Tamaqua Elementary School gymnasium.Help will be needed with setup Friday from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers are also needed for cleanup from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday.D.A.R.E graduation will be held at 6:30 p.m. onApril 6 in the Tamaqua middle School auditorium. Help will be needed that morning for setup.Fly tying classSchuylkill County Trout Unlimited will host its Third Annual Beginners Fly Tying Class at the Tamaqua Community Art Center. The class will be held from 1-4 p.m. March 6.Materials will be provided.Seating is limited, so registration is required. To register, or for more information, call 570-668-1192.The art center is located at 125 Pine St. in Tamaqua.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville are held at 9 a.m. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.This Sunday, Cub and Girl Scouts and the church board will all meet at 6 p.m.Next week's activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, midweek Lenten service at 7:30 p.m. in St. John's Mahoning; Thursday, Confirmation class meets at 6 p.m., cherub rehearsal at 6:30 p.m., junior choir practice at 7 p.m. and senior choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.Holy Communion and "One Great Hour of Sharing" will be celebrated on March 6.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Sunday's 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John's Lutheran Church.Also on Sunday, Confirmation, Sunday school and First Communion classes will all meet at 10:30 a.m. and the bell choir will rehearse at noon.Next week's activities will include: Wednesday, midweek Lenten service at 7 p.m. at Zion's; Thursday, angel choir practice is at 6 p.m., shepherd choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m., chancel choir meets at 7:30 p.m.Library story timeThe Tamaqua Public Library's Spring Story Time session will begin March 22 and 23. The free sessions are open to preschoolers between the ages of 2 and 5.Sessions will be held for 10 consecutive weeks, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, concluding in May. In addition to story reading/telling, participants will learn new songs, design special crafts and enjoy a snack.
