Napping in public places resulted in a citation for a Tamaqua man.
A police officer on patrol at 1:55 a.m. Sept. 23 saw a blue car stopped in the middle of the Mauch Chunk Street bridge, with the driver's side door in the open position. The officer checked and discovered a male in the driver's seat, fast asleep. A pair of flip flops and a cell phone were in the roadway, next to the car.The male was identified as Damon Roger Hayes, 48, of 555 Arlington St. A strong odor of alcohol was detected on his person when the officer tried to wake him. He was given a portable breath test, which indicated a .179 blood alcohol content.Hayes was transported to his home.Later, at 5:50 a.m., Hayes was discovered sleeping in a booth at the Tamaqua Diner on Center Street.He was cited for public drunkenness.
