Open adoption of trees for the second annual Christmas in the Park in Palmerton will begin Friday. No adoptions will take place until this date. Below is the list of guidelines for the trees:
• Not all trees will have access to electricity; those who purchase a tree will be informed when they call if trees with electricity are still available.• Dates to decorate trees are Nov. 30 through Dec. 4.• Individuals who decorate must use LED lights and should limit their tree to 300 lights.• They should have an outdoor extension cord, noted with their name, connected to their lights. The cord can just lay under their tree in the back.• The electricity to the trees will not be turned on when individuals decorate, and individuals should test all lights before they get to the park. The Christmas in the Park Committee will connect the lights to the outlets.• The committee asks that no tinsel, or similar items that can easily blow off, be placed on the trees.• The committee also asks to not use glass ornaments, as when they get blown, they can shatter and be a hazard to the children and animals in the park.• When securing ornaments, they should be wrapped onto the tree branches. Some suggestions include twist ties, pieces of pipe cleaners, or garden ties, which will help with windy conditions and to keep ornaments in place.• A tree skirt is recommended, such as a length of inexpensive material or burlap that is about 40-inches wide and 8-feet long. For a round plastic table cover, make a slit in it to get an instant weather resistant skirt.• In the event a bad storm would blow through, individuals should come and check on the tree in case any of their ornaments come loose.• All trees are to be undecorated from Jan. 7-10. The committee will dispose of the tree and the tree stand.
