Rush Township plans to secure a grant to spruce up one of its recreational parks.

On a 2-0 vote, the township's board of supervisors on Thursday adopted a resolution between the township and the Commonwealth Financing Authority to apply for a grant for the Grier City Park. The resolution designates board Chairman Shawn Gilbert and Supervisor Robert Leibensperger as the officials to execute all documents and agreements between both parties to facilitate and assist in obtaining the grant.Supervisor Jeaninne Motroni was absent.The township is requesting a grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority - Greenway Trail and Recreation Grant Program. The project would include groundwork, reconstruction of the pavilion, construction of bathrooms, installation of sanitary sewer and grinder pump, reconstruction of the ball field, and compliant parking.After the meeting, Leibensperger said the grant would be in the amount of about $250,000, while the township would be committed to fund about $50,000.Leibensperger said the goal is for the township's parks to be on a cycle."We want our parks to bring in people and more families," Leibensperger said.Leibensperger said the work is being done not only for the youth, but for all ages.He said they are creating walking paths so that "not only will the kids have activity, but adults will have activity."The park is located at the end of Messerschmidt Street in Grier City.Public commentAlso on Thursday, resident Charlie Shamonsky asked the board if an ordinance related to riding four-wheelers on streets is still active.Leibensperger said that it is, and that the township police department enforces it.Resident Joe Shamonsky asked if there was any possibility of the township sending its road crew up to his property on Swenson Street.The road crew will go through the township and make sure drains are clean due to the winter and heavy rains.
