2020 has presented us so many challenges and has put health care at the center of every conversation. It is so upsetting when a family member is sick and requires health care during normal times, let alone during a pandemic. Unexpected medical bills are causing chaos for families all across the United States. Surprise medical bills can result in families facing financial crisis in already trying times. Families have been financially ruined due to surprise medical bills. Often you are not able to control when a family member needs medical help. One thing we can control is finding a solution.

The good news is that our leaders can make a difference in addressing surprise medical billing, and the time is now. Congress needs to solve surprise medical billing using a third-party arbitrator that takes the patient out of the dispute all together. This has been successful in states such as New York and Texas.
