Man facing state prison for assault

A Carbon County man is facing a state prison term after pleading guilty to aggravated assault, as a felony one.

Shawn Jeffrey Reinhart, 35, of Palmerton, entered his plea Thursday before Judge Steven R. Serfass. He also pleaded to one count of criminal trespass, a felony three.Reinhart, currently in the county prison on the charges, faces a minimum prison term of between 30 to 60 months according to state sentencing guidelines, which Serfass said is a state sentence.State police at Lehighton said Reinhart, who was homeless at the time, entered a garage at 10400 block of Interchange Road, in Towamensing Township on April 14 and stayed the night.The next morning the property owner, Larry J. Smith, entered the garage and Reinhart struck him on the head with a piece of wood, causing him injuries.Serfass deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
