The final budget passed unanimously at East Penn’s monthly Board of Supervisors meeting confirming there will be no tax increase in 2021.
The East Penn Fire Volunteer Company requested that the township honor a $5,000 fundraising match despite its inability to raise funds during COVID-19 closures.
The state provided funds to smaller fire departments, and the board unanimously voted to match the first $5,000 as part of the annual support of the fire company.
Fire Chief Robert Kleintop said that “we will still protect the community” regardless of the funds, but “the funds make it easier to maintain equipment.”
The board unanimously voted to extend the post office’s lease for five years which extends the lease from 2022 to 2027.
They also approved a request from Mahoning Ambulance to receive a list of names and addresses of everyone west of Burger Creek Road for the purposes of fundraising.
Chairman William G. Schwab confirmed that addresses are public information and no privacy violations exist. That said, the list they can provide isn’t accurate as the township has no way to know who has moved in or out of the area.
The board voted to apply for a one-year $75 membership to the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society. The society offers seminars and monthly newsletters and includes information about the DCNR. Schwab suggested they “get it for a year to see how we use it.”
Supervisor Dennis L. Pearson publicly thanked Norman Smith of Ashfield for volunteering his time to put up Christmas lights in the park area.
