Schuylkill County Commissioners will meet with Schuylkill County Coroner David J. Moylan III on Wednesday.
Moylan said he and Eric Mika, solicitor for the coroner’s office, will talk about why Moylan is ruling some drug deaths homicides. He didn’t recall the time of the meeting.
Commissioner Barron “Boots” Hetherington confirmed a meeting will occur, which he said is after lunch.
“We want an explanation of what’s going on,” he said of the increasing costs in the office.
Commissioners have expressed their frustration with the uptick in expenses. Commissioner Gary Hess previously said until another meeting was scheduled he could not approve additional expenditures.
Office employees previously said state police, Pottsville Bureau of Police and other police departments are requesting the autopsies, which are done at the Dauphin County Forensic Center in Harrisburg.
Drug-related deaths are on the rise in the county. In October, Deputy Coroner John Mika said there were 93-drug related deaths in the county. An updated tally was not available.
