Trick or treat

Tamaqua Mayor Chris Morrison has set the borough's trick-or-treat night as Oct. 31. Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m.Residents willing to treat the ghouls, goblins, princesses and superheroes are reminded to light up their property with porch and/or exterior lights.Soup socialMonthly soup socials are being held at Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St. The next outreach social will be held from 4-6 p.m. Nov. 7. The event is part of Trinity's "Feeding the Hungry" program.The public is welcome to attend and share in the free soup, friendship and God's love. Those attending are reminded to use the lower parking lot entrance into Founder's Hall.Bucket booksThe Bucket List Book Club meets at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month, at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St. The next meeting will be held on Nov. 4.The November selection will be "Slaughterhouse 5," written by Kurt Vonnegut. The book tells the tale of Billy Pilgrim through flashbacks, including his time as a World War II prisoner of war during the bombing of Dresden, time spent in an alien zoo and his travels through time. Vonnegut masterfully weaves together reality and fiction, using his own World War II experience to flesh out his characters.New members are always welcome.
