A weekend full of Christmas celebration came to a colorful conclusion Sunday night with the lighting of 73 trees in Lehighton Borough's upper and lower parks.

The Lehighton 150th Celebration Committee organized the Christmas trees in the Park event.Foothill Farms supplied the 72 smaller trees, which groups, individuals and businesses adopted for a minimum $40 and decorated leading up to Sunday's lighting. It also donated one main tree located next to the Lehighton amphitheater.Jenna Kroboth, Sesquicentennial princess, and Serenity Foraker, Little Miss Sesquicentennial, led the countdown prior to the lighting and A.J. Salerno of Foothill Farms flipped the switch."It's been wonderful to see so many people from town come together this weekend," said Autumn Abelovsky, secretary of the 150th committee. "For our first event, we really couldn't have asked for more. We're looking to add and help this grow in the future."Christmas spirit was in the air as the Pale Moon Players sang a medley of carols around the parks.The Lehighton Band, TNT Studio of Dance and the Zion Ecumenical Cantata also provided entertainment.Mylee Hauser, a fourth-grade student in Lehighton, sang a rousing rendition of "Winter Wonderland" on the amphitheater's stage.The Lehighton Fire Department volunteered its time decorating the centerpiece tree.Decorative greenery around the park fountain was provided by Yenser's Tree Farm."I love Christmas and I think the trees are a wonderful idea that is taking off around the area," said Darren Anderson of Lehighton. "I thought it would be hard to get this many people out here, but it's truly nice to see. The trees are a great way to honor loved ones or keep memories alive."Christmas is a time of joy, but also one to remember those who have fallen on tough times.Abelovsky called to mind the families forced out of their homes by a fire on North Second Street in Lehighton before Thanksgiving."We have placed a giving tree in the amphitheater for those wishing to donate funds for these families," she said.Nicole Beckett, Lehighton borough manager, said the town would like to build on the success of Christmas in the Park."We look forward to more opportunities for community togetherness," Beckett said. "We want to thank the 150th committee for putting on an amazing inaugural event."
