As part of a statewide mandate, the Monroe County Conservation District is working on a new model stormwater ordinance for the Brodhead Creek and the McMichaels Creek watersheds in Monroe County. The new model storm ordinance was developed under Act 167 as an update of two plans done over more than 10 years ago.
“The Brodhead Creek and the McMichaels Creek watersheds are up to the current standards and the updated ordinance will incorporate the DEP stormwater policy requiring designers to develop nonstructural controls and strategies to achieve the best water qualities,” said Kristina Heaney, Monroe County Conservation District Manager.
On Nov. 23 the Monroe County Conservation District emailed a survey to all Monroe County municipalities. The purpose of the survey is to have feedback from property owners on flooding issues and problems on damage caused by runoff water.
“We need to know where the problem areas are and by answering the questions on the survey, we will have better information to help make the changes to correct the problems,” she said.
All surveys were due back to the district by today. Heaney said once the surveys have all been reviewed, the plan for the ordinance should be final in January.
