A look back: Nov. 27, 1990

A $10,000 gift received from the Horsehead Resource Foundation Inc., Palmerton, has proved to be an “exciting development” in plans to complete the Lehighton Recreation Center, according to Darryl Arner, chairman of the borough’s Recreation Committee.

He said the grant has helped the borough meet its goal of raising $50,000, the addition lifting the total of monies received to $53,000 to date, which will be used to install flooring in the facility.

The committee has been asked to consider a wooden floor in the center, but Arner said that would cost approximately $40,000, well in excess of the $22,000 or $25,000 planned for another type of flooring.
