There will be a "Night at the Races" to benefit the family of Keith Oliphant onJuly 23 at the Summit Hill Community Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the races start at 7 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the American Fire Company No. 1, Diligence Fire Company, Coaldale Fire Company and the Nesquehoning Hose Company.Tickets are $10 and include refreshments and a horse race entry. The ticket enters the participant in one out of 10 races.The night will benefit the family of Keith Oliphant, who passed away in April. The funds raised will help the family with the funeral costs.American Fire Company Chief Joseph Greco says he has known Keith's father, Keith Sr. for many years."He has taught a lot of firefighters in the area, so now the firefighters are helping him," says Greco.Greco had known Keith Jr. personally for many years."He taught me in the late '90s, he touched lots of lives," Greco said of Keith Sr. "So I talked to local departments about the benefit.
