A look back: Nov. 25, 1993

St. John’s Episcopal Church, Palmerton, yesterday was the site of a Thanksgiving dinner for local residents who have no family or who are needy.

It was the second consecutive year for the dinner, hosted by the Episcopal Ministry of Unity. The ministry consists of members from St. John’s Church and All Saints Episcopal Church in Lehighton.

Twenty-three volunteers cooked 80 pounds of turkey, 20 pounds of ham, 20 pounds of filling, 10 pounds of corn, 10 pounds of applesauce, 15 pounds of sweet potatoes, 5 gallons of gravy, nine dozen dinner rolls and 20 homemade pies.

The ministry also holds a dinner on the fourth Thursday of every month for anyone who wants to attend.
