Nesquehoning VFW recently honored police Chief Sean Smith as the police officer of the year.
The VFW presents awards annually to deserving men and women in various roles in the community.
Smith has served in the role as the borough’s chief since April 2001, but has a long history of police work under his belt.
Before joining the Nesquehoning force, he served as the detective in Lansford, as well as a part-time officer in Kidder Township and Summit Hill.
