Northwestern’s District 11 Class 4A semifinal that had been scheduled for Friday has been canceled after its scheduled opponent, Wilson, withdrew from the tournament due to COVID-19 related issues on Wednesday.
As a result, the third-seeded Tigers will advance to the Class 4A championship final with their opponent being the winner of the Allentown Central Catholic vs. Bethlehem Catholic semifinal contest.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wilson Area High School as they work through their tough situation,” Northwestern Athletic Director and District 11 Football Chairman Jason Zimmerman said in an email Wednesday.
In addition to the Northwestern game, two district championship games were also called off this weekend.
The Class 1A contest featuring Williams Valley and Tri-Valley has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues. The teams will try to make up the game at a later date.
Likewise, the 3A title game between North Schuylkill and Notre Dame that was scheduled for Saturday also had to be postponed. The Spartans and Crusaders hope to meet later to decide a champion.
Earlier in the week, Stroudsburg had to bow out of the 6A semifinals, giving Nazareth a bye into the championship game.
