Woman admits assaulting her husband

A Carbon County woman pleaded guilty to an assault count and of possessing an instrument of crime, in two cases, both stemming from domestic incidents with her husband the listed victim.

Catherine Rosalie Maiello, 41, of Weatherly pleaded on Friday before Carbon Judge Joseph J. Matika to one count each of simple assault and the instrument of crime charge.She was arrested by Weatherly police for two incidents involving her husband, Anthony Maiello, at their home at 1006 North St. on Aug. 3 and Sept. 14, 2015.Police charged that in one of the incidents she assaulted her husband, causing injuries. She was charged in another incident with giving her daughter a knife and telling her to slash the tires on her husband's vehicle. She denied giving the knife to her daughter but admitted to possessing the knife.It was noted that there are mutual protection from abuse orders in place in both Carbon and Luzerne counties. There is also a divorce action pending. It was further noted that Catherine Maiello is dealing with mental health issues that must be addressed.On the assault count Matika sentenced her to serve 30 days to six months in jail, and on the second count involving the instrument of crime, he sentenced her to serve one to six months in jail, consecutive to the first count.She was also ordered to get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, render a total of 50 hours of community service when released on parole, have no contact with her husband except in the divorce proceeding, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.She was given credit for 13 days spent in jail on the charges. She will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. April 25.
