Nesquehoning officials want to warn residents to be careful when throwing out personal information.
During borough council's meeting on Wednesday, Mayor Sam Kitchko spoke about recent complaints a few council members received about people stealing other people's trash that had been placed at the curb for pickup. He said his major concern about this was because it was tax time, meaning a lot of personal information is floating around. He urged residents to be cautious when throwing out items with personal information on them."It should be shredded or at least torn up before it is put in the garbage," he said. "Be careful about throwing things out with personal information on it."Councilman George Sabol said that once trash is out on the curb, it is not a crime for people to go through it, but echoed Kitchko's plea to be careful about throwing out personal information without first shredding it.In a related matters, Councilman David DeMelfi announced that for 2015, the borough collected a total of 158.8 tons of recyclable items through its single stream recycling program. He added that Nesquehoning will hold its spring electronics recycling event from 2-5 p.m. on May 12, at the orange recycling bins along Locust Street. The event is held through RRS.
