Six defendants were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program last week after waiving a preliminary hearing on the pending charges during a session of central court at the courthouse in Jim Thorpe.

Jude Anthony Makowiec, 59, of Weatherly was placed for a year on a driving under the influence charge. He was arrested on Oct. 29, 2016, along Market Street in Banks Township by state police at Hazleton. A test revealed a 0.12 BAC.He was assessed $500 for the cost of the program, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 30 days.Dahna Elaine Phillips, 52, of New Ringgold, was placed for a year on a DUI charge.She was arrested on Oct. 4, 2016, by state police at Lehighton police along Mahoning Mountain Road in Mahoning Township. A test revealed a 0.16 BAC.She was assessed $550, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 60 days.Ryan Warren Weiss, 18, of Palmerton, was placed for a year on a charge of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. He was arrested on Nov. 16, 2016, by Palmerton police in the area of 545 Delaware Ave.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and to stay out of the Family Dollar Store.Brianna Rose Caterino, 25, of Palmerton, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on Nov. 28, 2016, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store.She was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.Ian Diefenderfer, 23, of Walnutport, was placed for a year on a charge of aggravated assault and related counts.He was arrested on Dec. 10, 2016, by Palmerton police for assaulting a nurse at the Palmerton Hospital and causing a disturbance.He was assessed $600 and ordered to get a mental health evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Giancarlo Bottger, 18, of Kearny, New Jersey, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana.He was arrested on May 29, 2016, along Route 903 in Lake Harmony by Kidder Township police following a traffic stop.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
