Approving the change of the streetlight bulbs to LEDs hit hurdles again in Schuylkill Township Monday night.

Vice Chairman Charles Hosler said the proposed savings of $55 a month is not as substantial as PPL claims.A lingering discussion ensued between Hosler and Chairman Charles Fayash regarding the lumens and brightness, compared to the lights they have now, and the additional charges they will incur with the new lights.Fayash made a motion to approve the switch to LEDs, but Hosler and Frank Fabrizio said they wanted to look more into the actual numbers and real potential savings.Fayash said new LED lights need to be installed in town, so the board should consider all LED lights.The decision to switch to LEDs has been tabled every month since February.A resident shouted out that the board should research the decision, and Fayash demanded silence and said they have been doing the research.Fabrizio and Hosler decided to table the matter again to look into it further and made a motion with a nay from Fayash, which was met with a booing noise and sighs from those present frustrated with the lack of moving forward with the new, more economical lights.Fayash said Paul Benulis won't be recording the township meetings anymore and that it was his last time recording the meeting for those who can't attend the meeting due to work, health issues, etc. The videos are available on YouTube or the township website, and Benulis said he's available to help whoever takes over the task.A request to purchase a video camera was introduced for approval at the next meeting after prices have been researched.The police report revealed there was a major arrest and confiscation of stolen items, firearms and drugs within the township and investigations continue.A motion was passed to advertise a new ordinance for the next meeting on emergency services reimbursement rendered to the township.During the zoning report, Benulis said there's no uniform commercial code required for garage or pole buildings less than 1,000 square feet. The zoning permit costs $10.Paul Benulis said "As far as the lights go, my general perspective is that results are directly related to effort. We have no results here, zero, and to me is a lack of effort. Not that it matters, but it's a pretty common move for townships and boroughs to make. Charlie, please, please do some work outside of here during the month, and do some decision making in here. We have taxpayers here that deserve to have streetlights. You got elected somehow to serve the residents of the township, so please do your job and serve those residents. I see no legitimate reason to not passing the LED streetlights."
