The Orioles Community Center on Orioles Drive is developing plans to host a summer carnival the first week of June.

StartingJune 1, the center will partner will AB Amusement, which will roll food carts, games and rides to the "home in the sky."The permit cost for the carnival is $100 with a 10 percent amusement tax attached to the event. The nonprofit organization agreed to a 15/85 percent split in profits with the company."If you read the contract, the Orioles will be responsible for all the fees and permits," said township solicitor Thomas Nanovic."What does the board think? I personally would let them have it this year and see how it goes, but the carnival has to pay the amusement tax and get the permit," said Mahoning Township board Chairman Franklin Ruch."I agree," said Vice Chairman John Wieczorek.The weekend will close Sunday with a coaster race down Orioles Drive starting at noon.The race will require a detour for township drivers between the hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 4."You're looking at about 12 signs overall," Ruch said."We can call PennDOT and see if we can borrow signs," Wieczorek said.The board brainstormed on different ways to get around borrowing the dozen signs for the temporary detour, including having township fire police redirect traffic."Well, did they meet with the fire police yet?" Ruch asked of the nonprofit club.Township Fire Chief Mark Ebbert said the organizers had yet to contact him on the matter."The board of supervisors can temporarily close any township road when it's declared unsafe for travel, but the road must be marked when any public road is closed," Nanovic said of the ordinance."We're doing this for them. We should let them figure out how they want to do the detour," he said."It's becoming very convoluted."The board agreed to contact the club before ironing out the details."Maybe they'll have a solution," Nanovic said.
