The Tamaqua Area School Board met in a special session last night and hired three Tamaqua residents to positions within the district.

Under a federal grant program, Mrs. Karen Mateyak was hired as a mathematics teacher in the junior high school under a one-year contract.

Kathy Miorelli was offered employment as a teacher aide and will serve St. Jerome’s School.

Barry Southam was hired under the Schuylkill Carbon Agency Manpower program as a recreation director coordinating and supervising community and school activities. The position will be funded through county and state grants.
