Giant Food Store on Blakeslee Boulevard will soon be the site of Beer Garden and Eatery at Lehighton.

Remodeling will start in the first half of 2017 for the plaza grocery store to add the sandwich and salad shop near the main entrance where the office and overflow of carts are now housed.Josh Erb, Giant’s manager of sales and merchandising, said the grab-and-go restaurant will be able to seat up to 30 people and sell four to five varieties of local and craft beers. Wine will also be sold on site.The Mahoning Township Supervisors held a public hearing Wednesday to approve the liquor license transfer.Supervisor Bruce Steigerwalt had questions about the security of the alcohol sales, but Erb assured the board the company takes underage sales seriously.“We spend a lot of time training our staff to avoid things like that. The area will be marked off and someone will be in the restaurant at all times,” he said.
