Woman dies in Packer crash

A two-car crash Monday night in Carbon County has resulted in the death of a Weatherly woman.

Mary Beth Thamarus, 55, was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton Campus.State police at Hazleton said the crash occurred at 9:15 p.m. on Brenkman Drive in Packer Township, when a 2000 Chevrolet Impala operated by Zeri Douglas Brewer, 20, of Hamburg, was traveling west on Brenkman Drive.As Brewer attempted to negotiate the curve in the roadway he lost control of his vehicle, traveled across the double yellow line into the eastbound lane and into the path of travel of a 2009 GMC Canyon driven by Thamarus. The front of the GMC struck the rear passenger side of the Impala.After impact the Impala came to rest in the east and westbound lanes while the GMC came to rest partially on the eastbound lane facing southeast.Thamarus was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. Brewer was and was not injured.Both vehicles had disabling damage.Assisting state police at the scene were Weatherly and Beaver Meadows police, Citizens Fire Company of Weatherly and Weatherly Ambulance.A Jim Thorpe Area High School graduate, Thamarus had worked at Hershey Foods of Hazleton for many years, and previously worked at
