After-school event

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center’s After School Adventures at Kettle Creek continues today and next Wednesday.

The staff at the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center, with registered students in tow, will venture out to the trails for a fun-filled learning experience after school, exploring the 160-plus acres at Kettle Creek Wildlife Sanctuary. The program will begin at 3:30 p.m. and last one hour.

Age groupings available are: ages 3-6 (one parent must attend with child), ages 7-10 and ages 11-14. Preregistration is required and limited to 10 guests per age group. Only the registered participant and one parent, for ages 3-6 group only, may attend the program.

Soup sale ends

Effort UMC’s soup sale orders must be in by 5 p.m. today. The pickup is Oct. 25. The soups being offered include roasted turkey vegetable as well as a broth type soup (Nutrition Soup) with butternut squash, kale, sausage and a grain.

Free to-go meal

Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will hold its next free community meal to-go dinner from 5 to 6 tonight.

Sub vets meet

The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Pocono Base, meet regularly on the third Wednesday of each month at the Wilson Fisher American Legion, Post 413, Old Route 940, in Pocono Pines. The club is a local chapter of the national organization U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc. The purpose of the organization is to perpetuate the memory of shipmates who gave their lives in the pursuit of their duties while serving their country. Submarine veterans from all eras are encouraged to join.

This month’s meeting will be held at 7 tonight.

Food drive held

The West End Home Association of American Legion Post 927 is holding a Thanksgiving food drive to benefit community food banks now through Nov. 22.

Folks are asked to bring donations of canned and dry goods to the collection box in the entry foyer of American Legion Post 927, Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert.

Food box delivery

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is expecting another delivery of food boxes working with Sysco’s Central Pennsylvania.

The delivery is set for Thursday, and residents can come for the distribution from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., first-come, first-served.

The boxes contain frozen foods (hot dogs) fresh produce, fresh dairy and a gallon of 2% milk.

Board of Education

The Pleasant Valley School District will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the District Office in Brodheadsville.

Regional meeting

The monthly Chestnuthill-Jackson-Eldred-Ross-Polk is to be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill municipal complex on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

Democrats meet

The West End Democratic Association is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the West End Fire Company in Brodheadsville, upper level banquet-sized room. Masks and social distancing is required.

Registration due

The Holiday Toys program at the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network registration deadline is this Friday. Children under 15 years old may be eligible to receive free Christmas toys.

Extra bird seed

Monroe County Conservation District’s Environmental Education Center has scheduled its Truckload Wild Bird Seed Sale with extras available for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Soup & bake sale

McMichaels UMC is hosting a soup and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

A variety of soups and desserts will be offered.

Some of the soups, in pints or quarts, include vegetable beef, broccoli cheese, sausage and bean, cream of tomato basil, ham and bean, chicken and rice, and more.

Grilled hot dogs and chips will be available while shopping for soup and various desserts.

Effort pantry

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC is operating on its normal schedule, second and fourth Saturdays of the month. It is open from 10 a.m. to noon. However, the check-in process has changed to a drive-in type of service. Those utilizing the pantry are reminded to follow the direction of the parking coordinators and not get out of the car.

Food will be brought to the vehicle and there will be no set menu.
