Slatington’s Main Street Merchants Group is hosting an Earth Day-themed First Friday evening this week.
From 4 to 8 p.m., local businesses will host activities, music and organically grown food along the historic district.April’s family friendly “Earth Day Every Day,” theme will include a lecture at the Slatington Public Library from Lehigh Gap Nature Center’s Director Dan Kunkle from 4 to 5 p.m.Participants can grab a Main Street Merchants Passport at the library to take along the business route, collecting stamps for a chance to win a bicycle donated by Lehighton Walmart.Blue Mountain Farm Market will sell locally grown potted plants and fresh greens during the event and partner with Charlotte Fay’s Main Street Diner to create organic dinner dishes while a blues duo entertains the crowd.“I’m very happy and excited that there’s still so much growth potential,” said diner owner and committee member Jason Ruff.Rhythm and Sole Dance Studio will entertain residents with spring-themed dances and drumming during its open house.First Friday newcomers, Slatington Marketplace on Route 873, will also stay open later and conduct a demonstration of recycling junk into treasure.The First Friday nights will continue every other month throughout 2017.Any business or resident interested in the merchants committee can join the monthly breakfast meetings at the diner or call the chamber at 484-274-2080.
