Visitors to the Carbon County Fair Monday came to check out the games, music, food, rides, exhibits and all the vendors the fair has to offer.

The Large Flowerheads attracted a large crowd to their show at 5 before the opening ceremony. The band also performed two other times that night on the Main Stage.Food vendors are always popular. Vendors include Atlantic Concessions, Old Texas Soda Company, Smitty's french fries, and Big Creek BBQ & Grill. Other food included pizza, tacos, fried Oreos, pierogies, waffle and ice cream and more.Many crafters also came out to the fair, many for the first time.Cuela Strauss with Crafts by Q has crafts on display for the first year. She will also be at the West End Fair every day with homemade flower pots, jewelry and wreaths.Amelia Martin returned with her homemade arrangements, stars and flowers.The Carbon Model Railroad Society brought model trains.Dory, Olaf, Tigger, Pooh, and a Minion made an appearance in wooden carvings displayed by Darren Yurkunas. His wife helps him handpaint them."We love it. We try to do something different every year for the kids. We like to keep track of movies," Yurkunas said.Tractors, antique and new, were displayed near the stage. 4-H livestock and other farm animals include cows, pigs, ducks, sheep (sheared and unsheared), goats and chickens.Fruit, vegetables, plants, herbs and Christmas trees were on display, as well as 4-H still exhibits and a display from the Mahoning Valley Fiber Guild.Many of the same rides, including some new ones came to the fair with Goodtime Amusements, two favorites being the Starship and Sizzler.The Paratrooper and Ferris wheel returned to the fair after a several-year hiatus."I like it because it doesn't just go around it tilts," said Shayla Simck about the Paratrooper.Leland Cipics chimed in about the Ferris wheel, "I loved the whole thing."Farmer for a Day was also a popular attraction for many kids and parents alike.Mark Green has been doing Farmer for a Day since the beginning of the fair and built the whole set."I love watching them learn. They're so smart and always notices if things change," Green said.Emmy and Elvin Glick brought Knockerball back. "It's awesome. A lot of the same people come back year to year," Emmy said.The Glicks always bring their dog Toto along, which everyone always recognizes and loves."Even if you don't want to do it, it's always fun to watch people," said Emmy. There is a small ball part, and a more "aggressive" part, says Emmy. Little kids will usually do the smaller balls.Jane O'Brien brings her grandkids and niece every year to the fair."I like to see their little faces. Every year we wait for it," said O'Brien.
