A Carbon County man was sentenced to a state prison term after pleading guilty on Friday to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-methamphetamine in the county court.

Judge Joseph J. Matika sentenced Carl Kevin Christman Jr., 36, of Lehighton, to serve nine to 24 months in a state correctional institution. He began the prison term immediately.Christman was arrested by state police at Lehighton in the area of Nis Hollow Estates trailer park.Matika rejected a request to delay the start of the sentence as Christman said he wanted to enter a long-term inpatient drug program. Matika told him the state system has a drug rehabilitation program that he could take advantage of.Matika also noted that on Thursday, Christman appeared before Judge Steven R. Serfass on a bench warrant proceeding.Serfass ordered Christman to immediately report to the adult probation office and submit to a urine test. Instead, Christman left the courthouse and did not report. The probation office also noted that Christman did not comply with the rules of his release, including not reporting to the probation office as directed, not keeping in contact with his probation officer, and also testing positive for illegal substances.Matika also ordered Christman to render 50 hours of community service when released on parole, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, pay court costs of about $1,000 and supply a DNA sample. He was given credit for five days spent in prison on the charge.
