Northern Lehigh school board

Enrollment is underway for a preschool program for low-income children in the Northern Lehigh School District.

Assistant Superintendent Karen Nicholas said the Head Start Pre-K program will again run at Peters Elementary in collaboration with Community Services for Children, Allentown.The program is funded through Community Services for Children.In other businessThe school board approved the following:• An agreement with Gorman & Associates, for auditing services for the years ending June 30, 2017, 2018, and 2019.• Sweet, Stevens, Williams & Katz LLP as special counsel for the 2017-18 school year, at an hourly rate of $195 for nonroutine matters; $150 per hour for routine or general advice; and $125 per hour for legal assistants for routine and nonroutine matters; and for special education consultations and student services, at a cost of $6,300 for the 2017-18 school year, and is a part of the special education budget. There is no increase over the previous year's fee.• The retirement of Wendy Shirk from her position as high school cook's helper, effective April 28.• Rajeev Gupta as a temporary vacancy replacement high school physics teacher, replacing a teacher on family medical leave, at the substitute teacher rate of $46,875 prorated, now through June 12. Gupta was also appointed as a physics substitute teacher for the 2016-17 school year at the 2016-17 substitute teacher rates.• Bobbi Jo Reed as a cook's helper at the high school, at a salary of $9 an hour Monday through Friday, 5½ hours per day/180 student days a school year, plus additional cleaning days as needed.• Kelsey Follweiler as a game worker for the 2016-17 school year.• Suzanne Mengel will attend the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Implementers' Forum May 16-17 in Hershey, with the cost of registration $75, and lodging $188, for a total cost of about $263, to be funded from the district's Curriculum and Instruction budget.• David Oertner to attend the Advanced Placement Summer Institute July 10-13, at Cabrini University in Radnor, Delaware County, with the cost of registration $1,075, and travel $244, for a cost of $1,319, to be funded from the district's curriculum and instruction budget.• Nicole Nightlinger to attend the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Implementers' Forum May 16-17, in Hershey, with registration $75, lodging $89, meals $20, and travel $86, for a cost of $270, to be funded from the district's curriculum and instruction budget.• Michael Lehtonen to attend the Advanced Placement Summer Institute July 10-14, at St. Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, New Hampshire University, with registration $1,395, and travel $417, for a cost of $1,812, to be funded from the district's curriculum and instruction budget.• Nicholas Sander and James Yadush to attend the Advanced Placement Summer Institute June 26-29, at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit in Norristown, with each registration $975, and travel $122, for a cost of $1,097, funded from the district's curriculum and instruction budget.• The High School Patriot Club to travel to Wilderness Voyagers in Ohiopyle, Fayette County, May 18-20, to be funded by the students members of the Patriot Club.
