The Tamaqua Board of Health met March 2 at the Tamaqua Municipal Building with Rosemarie Noftz, Earl Boettger, Christine Zizelmann R.N., Shirley Becker, health officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and health enforcement officer Matthew Myers in attendance.Myers reported receiving 23 complaints: 15 for trash, with 14 resolved; 3 for animal waste, all resolved; one leaking sewer, which was resolved; and four properties were condemned as unfit for human habitation, with one resolved.There were no cases of reportable diseases in February.GriefShareA new series of GriefShare support sessions beginsWednesday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, 223 E. Broad St. The 13 weeks of sessions are biblically based and nondenominational, designed to help those suffering the loss of a loved one.GriefShare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life's most difficult experiences. You don't have to go through the grieving process alone.The level of participation is entirely up to each person, and you don't have to attend all 13 sessions. Groups are designed so that you can begin attending on any week and meet with others in a similar situation.Meetings will be held at 7 p.m. There is a fee for optional materials.For more information, or to register, call 570-668-2520. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session.The invocation "The Steps of the Righteous" was offered by Ruthann Feane. Nancy Gerber and Joan Wall remain on the sick list. Dues for 2016 are now being accepted.One guest, Irma Leibensperger, was warmly welcomed.Members are reminded to bring brown bag lunches during the winter months.The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.The group is open to anyone 55 or older and the YMCA is handicap accessible.Calvary LewistownThe Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m. The Calvary Band will rehearse after the worship service.Also on Sunday, at 6:30 p.m., the annual Sunday school Easter Program will be presented. The program will include recitations, a performance by the Calvary Band and congregational participation.The midweek Lenten service for Feb. 24 will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley.Adult Day CareThe Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for March, including an Easter egg hunt on March 24.Other activities for the month include:Friday, shamrock craft day;Tuesday, singalong with Audrey Christ; Wednesday, Salvation Army service; March 17, baking class; March 21, visit with St. Jerome's kindergarten students; March 22, manicure day; March 23, egg dyeing day.In addition to weekly singalongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling service, which requires advance notice. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center, or services provided, may call 570-668-6577 or visit Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville are held at 9 a.m. This Sunday's service will include the celebration of Girl Scout Sunday, followed by a time of fellowship. Kevin Duffy-Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. Sunday school meets at the end of the junior sermon. A time of fellowship will be held following the service.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes at 9:15 a.m.Bible study sessions are held at 12:30 p.m. Thursdays.Zion's valley Christian preschool will host an Open House from 6-8
p.m.today.OnTuesday, the fundraiser committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. and the preschool board will meet at 7:30 p.m.St. John's LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Sunday's 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John's Lutheran Church.Also on Sunday, Confirmation, Sunday school and First Communion classes will all meet at 10:30 a.m. and the bell choir will rehearse at noon.
